wow

just 4 days until the DIMACS REU begins -- can't believe it's that close to the wire.

today i met with Christine, the staff person i work most closely with, to get keys and go over some last minute things before the students actually show up. since i've been gone or working from home most of the time, i was pretty impressed when i saw the arrangements for the students.

for my REU we had a computer lab marked off for the REU and individual computers that we generally each used the same one of, and that was that.

these students have offices in groups of 3 with their names actually on plaques on the wall like they're staff. each gets their own individual computer in their office. (even in the math grad offices, it's one computer per room, not per person!) it looks pretty slick.

my homework for the weekend? read over housing info so i can do a brief rundown of it on tuesday evening, and make the summer's calendar fit on one sheet so that i can print it out for students to get when they check in next week. i also get the job of hanging around campus and getting apartment keys to the students who are coming in late, so monday will be a long day.

leigh leaves saturday early morning to work in ohio for the next two months (like she did last summer), so she and i went to see "madagascar" this afternoon before she left. it was very amusing, and we both enjoyed it a lot. :-)

the countdown to the start of non-planning work continues!... i should do some math tomorrow... oi.

happy thursday all?
