one last night and one tonight -- woohoo!
last night, eric had me over to his house where me, him, and sporadically some of his roommates watched "jesus christ superstar". the most familiarity i had had with it was hearing the soundtrack while on the crosscountry roadtrip with eric last summer. at the end, he asked what i thought, and i commented at the time that my reaction to it as a production would have a lot to do with how the end was staged. as a rock opera, it was a lot of fun, and very interesting to see how it was staged/choreographed... it was really cool how they used the natural landscape where they were filming to play into some of the scenes. my commentary of the ending was that to me it felt incomplete because nothing was done with the resurrection. eric's comment was "yeah, well, that's YOUR story; i don't think it was meant to be historically accurate so you can't knock them on that". while that's true, and my comment wasn't meant in that way, i can still make observations.... anyhow, it was entertaining, and on the whole i enjoyed it; the soundtrack *is* catchy too, and the performers in it were so energetic; it was quality.
tonight, was "meet joe black"... eric and i had intended to get dinner at subway (we like racking up stickers for our free sub cards), and he had a movie to return, only while there we started looking around and that was the first movie that neither of us had seen that sounded interesting to both. i thoroughly enjoyed it. brad pitt's character spooked me out from time to time, but on the whole i really enjoyed the whole idea behind it. i don't think either of us realized beforehand just how complex and epic the thing is (it's 3 hours long!)... eric startled me too when he whooped at brad pitt at one point :-P i thought that it was interesting to discuss with eric afterwards too because while i enjoyed the balance between plot and characters discussing out emotions, eric thought that the latter was waaaaaaaaaaaaay overplayed and complained about it; then again he's not one who's much for discussing emotions with other people either... for me on the other hand, life is in large part about feeling, and discussing feelings in reaction to things is important to me too; eric doesn't function that way and so we clash in our views of things accordingly :-P... at any rate, i thought it was a beautiful story and i enjoyed it a lot... i think you also (besides having 3 hours free) have to be in the right mood to sit down and properly enjoy it. quality again, but in a completely different way.
while at blockbuster, i noted that "garden state" is out on video now! and that blockbuster was having a buy 2 DVDs, get 1 free special, so i bought 3 flicks i'd been meaning to get for awhile -- garden state, in america, and 13 going on 30. i'm pretty happy with my choices. this is also the first time ever i've bought DVD instead of VHS! (not that i own a dvd-player besides my computer, but as long as i live with leigh i have one to use :-P) -- i think all 3 of those will get much quality viewing time as well, especially as i already know i like them all a lot :-)
anyhow, the end. i'm going to sleep.
